Moxibustion

applying moxibustion

Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that involves the burning of a small spongy herb called mugwort, which facilitates healing by strengthening the blood, stimulating the flow of Qi, and maintaining general health. The roots of this heat therapy can be traced to people’s natural urge to warm up painful areas in cold climates. Over time, they found various ways of transferring heat to the body, one of the first being stones heated to a suitable temperature pressed onto skin. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years.

Moxibustion is particularly useful in the following conditions:

  • Deficient conditions
  • Cold conditions
  • Chronic conditions
  • Immune deficiency
  • Gynecological conditions, such as irregular menstruation, fertility issues
  • Conditions where needling is ineffective

Moxibustion will be used with acupuncture treatment when the condition is warranted.
